Dear fellow breathers,
In 2002, my father died of lung cancer. Like so many of The Greatest Generation, he began smoking cigarettes issued by the military during World War II. Even though he quit in 1972 as a Christmas gift to me, fifty-five years of smoking still stole this good man’s last breath. I witnessed the pain of difficult breathing. I too clearly saw the brutality of death by suffocation. At that time, I swore someday, somehow, I would find a way to contribute to helping people breathe better.
Amazingly, even with so many advances in medicine since my father died, there are still many opportunities for us to further the very worthy goal of helping people breathe better, even for those of us who are not clinicians, physicians or scientists. We were fortunate with our first commercialized respiratory product, The MetaNeb® System, to successfully treat critical breathing problems in patients of all ages with pulmonary maladies such as severe burns, chronic pulmonary disorder, ventilation-induced injuries, blunt trauma, and battlefield injuries.
Our new product, The Caddo Pre-filled Nebulizer, is a simple and effective solution to some serious problems. It reduces contamination, mitigates dosing mistakes, and saves time and money, not to mention adding considerable convenience to an otherwise burdensome therapy. Even though we may not eliminate most pulmonary maladies, I ask that you join me in this endeavor. Together we can significantly reduce mistakes and unnecessary patient contamination in a manner that will have positive results for many people across the globe…perhaps even for each of us.
Dee Faram, Chairman & Founder
Mr. Faram has an extensive career in the respiratory care market spanning over 35 years. During this career he has conceived, as named inventor, more than 30 issued and pending patents spanning more than 45 countries and governmental jurisdictions. Among Mr. Faram’s inventions are two centerpiece respiratory care products: The MetaNeb® System, currently under global license to Hill-Rom Holdings, Inc. (NYSE:HRC) and Caddo’s Pre-filled Nebulizer™ System (PFN™).
The MetaNeb® System revolutionized secretion clearance, lung expansion and aerosol delivery into a single, compact therapeutic unit. The lung therapy device delivers aerosol, expands the airways, and helps to remove retained secretions from patients’ lungs. This device is used to prevent and resolve lung maladies such as atelectasis, and functions to increase pulmonary gas exchange. Mr. Faram conceived and began to develop Metaneb® in 2002. The MetaNeb® System received its foundational patents and passed FDA regulatory requirements in 2005 and 2006, and was then placed in service in 3 major medical centers in Houston, TX (Methodist Hospital, St. Luke’s and Memorial Hermann). In late 2009, a comprehensive worldwide exclusive license related to the MetaNeb® System was completed with Hill-Rom Holdings, Inc., who now controls its manufacturing, marketing and global distribution.
In parallel with, and independent of, his work with the MetaNeb® System, Mr. Faram conceived and developed Caddo’s IP Portfolio and its resulting Pre-filled Nebulizer System in support of his vision for a convenient, contamination-free and therapeutic drug-device combination applicable to the nebulizer market. The foundational patent associated with the Pre-filled Nebulizer™ System was granted in Japan and Canada in 2015, in a number of European jurisdictions in 2016 and in the United States in 2017. Additional patents to round out Mr. Faram’s full product vision for the PFN™ were filed in 2014, 2017 and 2018 with a key issuance of one such patent, the Therapy T Patent, in the United States in 2017.
Mr. Faram has a Bachelor of Arts from Texas Wesleyan University and a Master of Theology from Perkins School of Theology at Southern Methodist University. He is also an ordained elder in the United Methodist Church.
